What is Ozone Layer
The ozone layer protects the earth from the Harmful Ultraviolet Rays of the Sun. The ozone layer is a layer of ozone molecules, which is found in the atmosphere between 20 and 40 km.
If there is no ozone layer, then the ultraviolet rays of the sun will reach the earth directly. So that it will become very difficult for humans, trees, plants and animals to live on this earth.
Therefore, the protection of this ozone layer is the responsibility of all human beings living on the earth. Ozone Day is celebrated all over the world on 16 September.
Pollution causes great damage to the ozone layer. Chemicals and smoke coming out of factories and other industries spread pollution. Climate change is being caused by the depletion of the ozone layer.
The ozone layer was discovered in 1957 by Professor Garden Dobson of the University of Oxford. Ozone is a more reactive gas and is represented by O3.
Ozone Hole
The ozone hole is actually a thin part of the ozone layer that is located in the stratosphere above Antarctica. The hole in the ozone layer gets larger due to cooler weather than average temperatures and strong winds that surround Antarctica in the stratosphere.
When Sunrise begins in Antarctica. So the chlorine and bromine deposited here start ozone-depleting chemical reactions. One chlorine or bromine molecule destroys thousands of ozone molecules.
NASA and LU’s Report
NASA’s satellite instrument has monitored the latest status of the ozone layer. It has been found that there has been a massive hole in ozone. The ozone hole has become 7 times bigger than before.
According to the American Space Agency NASA, the ozone hole is technically not a hole. It does not happen in such a way that where nothing is present in this hole. Actually, this is the place where the level of gas is very low.
This is absolutely not an ozone free place. A report was made by scientists at Canada’s University of Water Loo, according to this report, a very large ozone hole has been found in the tropics of the Earth.
According to NASA, the decrease in ozone gas has been found due to Chlorofluorocarbons. This chemical comes out from devices like AC, fridge etc.
According to NASA, these chemicals are present in the low atmosphere for many years. According to Qing Bin Lu, this ozone hole can become a very big Global Concern.
The researcher wrote in his observation paper that due to the depletion of the ozone layer, the ground level UV radiation will increase.
Due to which the risk of getting fatal diseases like skin cancer and cataracts in humans will increase. Along with this, the Immune System of humans will also be weakened and it will reduce Agricultural Productivity. It will have a negative effect on the Organisms and Ecosystem.
