The well-known actress from “Aquaman,” Amber Heard, has paid all her debts to her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. Heard has paid Depp $1 million in accordance with a court ruling in Virginia, USA, effectively ending the lingering defamation litigation that had been tripping them up.
The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor had initially won the case, and the jury had awarded him $10 million in compensatory damages as well as an additional $5 million in punitive damages. Heard, on the other hand, was compensated $2 million.
Heard agreed to give the “Edward Scissorhands” actor $1 million after the estranged couple finally came to terms in December. Heard later expressed her relief on Instagram, writing that she had finally found a way to move past the traumatic experience. The chance to free myself from something I tried to abandon more than six years ago is finally here, she said, and on terms I can accept. I have not admitted anything. This is not a concession in any way. Moving ahead, there are no limitations or gags on my voice.
The ‘Zombieland’ actress highlighted the regrettable fact that many women who come forward about their abuse frequently face severe financial penalties while speaking out about the settlement’s financial ramifications. I cannot afford to take a chance on incurring an impossible debt—one that is not only financial but also psychological, physical, and emotional. Women shouldn’t have to worry about being abused or going bankrupt for expressing their truth, but regrettably, it happens frequently.
According to a TMZ report, Johnny Depp has made the generous decision to contribute the settlement funds to a number of nonprofit organisations. Five deserving organisations, each focused on a different social concern such as the treatment of terminally sick children, the rehabilitation of marginalised communities, and the protection of ecosystems, among others, will share the monies equally.
Depp will donate money to the Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance among other causes.
Regarding Johnny Depp’s career, the renowned actor recently made a stunning return to the big screen with the French historical drama “Jeanne Du Barry,” in which he played Louis XV, a former king of France. The film garnered a thunderous seven-minute standing ovation at its screening at the Cannes Film Festival.
