The 9 month wait is over, Sunita Williams is returning to Earth from space

The entire globe is keeping a close eye on NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore as they depart today for their return to Earth. For over nine months, both have been stuck on the International Space Station (ISS). Following the return of both astronauts, the nine-month space voyage will come to an end. Wilmore, Nick Hague, Sunita Williams, and two other members of Crew-9 are taking the SpaceX Dragon spaceship back to Earth.

According to Indian time, on March 18 at 10:35 am, the spacecraft will be separated i.e. undocked from the International Space Station.

The spacecraft will land in Florida

The spacecraft will land in the water close to the US coast of Florida after exiting Earth’s orbit. One by one, the astronauts will then be removed from the spacecraft. The crew will spend a few days at NASA’s Johnson Space Center for standard post-mission medical examinations following a successful landing. In addition to the psychological effects of loneliness, astronauts must contend with radiation exposure, bone and muscle degradation, and vision loss as a result of the harsh survival conditions.

When will he return?

On March 19, the deorbit burn (entry of the spacecraft into the atmosphere) will take place at 02.41 am. The spacecraft will land in the sea at 03.27 am. There will be a press conference regarding the return to Earth at 05.00 am. It will take a total of 17 hours for Sunita and Bull to return to Earth.

What is NASA’s preparation?

Mission managers will continue to monitor weather conditions in the area, as Dragon’s undocking depends on a variety of factors, including spacecraft readiness, recovery team readiness, weather, sea conditions and other factors.

NASA and SpaceX will confirm the splashdown location closer to Crew-9‘s return. NASA has selected SpaceX’s Dragon Crew Capsule to carry Sunita. The capsule has launched 49 times since its inception. The Dragon capsule has traveled to the International Space Station 44 times and reflown 29 times.
